I have a very busy day tomorrow, so if I don't reply tomorrow then I will over the weekend. Antivirus applications can suffer corruption (even infection) like any other applications, and if so, they can affect system performance more so than probably most applications... If you do change your data drive for an HHD, get a USB utility case that uses an external power supply for the removed HD. After the restart check again in Computer, Disk Management, and the DISKPART Volume list, if it's not detected by Windows, check if the BIOS detects the HDD. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 on my SSD without my HHD plugged in. There seems to be a smaller slowdown after making a back to the eSATA drive but nothing like the 4TB drive.

If your PC works fine with only essential operating system files loaded – which it should, if you have 2GB or more memory and at least 1GB of free hard drive Drive is no longer detected. I am unsure if I noticed the slowness before or after I reinstalled Windows.
