It's a bit of a pain in the butt, but this approach has often worked on our computers and those of clients. Would Windows 10 cover them? In the picture link I've included I decided to just try and install a few updates rather than the full amount, and it's still insisted on saying 0% downloaded for half Thank you so very much. on advice on a blog set my update search away and just left it running (took 5 hours) ...

  1. You might also try uninstalling the last successfully-installed update just in case this has caused a problem with subsequent updates.
  2. Given that there won't be patches for Vista in the very near future, I would really recommend upgrading to a newer version of Windows as soon as possible.
  3. Ie, first select only the oldest updates and install and configure, then a bit newer and do the same, etc.
  4. The IE I had was IE 8 from the Win 7 install disk.
  5. Merry Christmas.
  6. I have a fair few updates to install now due to this; I can find the updates but Windows Update just won't download them at all.

You could also Clean Install Windows 8 if Reset Your PC doesn't work for some reason. Windows 7:Reinstall Windows 7, keeping nothing (no personal files or programs).
